Help! "I Love yoga! But I also catch a lot of flack from my teammates (I play hockey) about doing it. I know it's helped me improve my game a lot. I just wish yoga didn't have such a wimpy image, so I wouldn't get razzed so much!"

from Ashton,

Well Ashton, I can sort of relate. When I was young I used to play a lot of sports, and I can only imagine the razzing I would have gotten if I made my yoga interests public in the locker room.  How should you respond?  My advice is to let your “game” do the talking!

Guys who do yoga are not wimpy! They are sooooo sexy! (Ooops! I hope this comment doesn’t get edited out) :O)

Trust me, I don’t think I’m alone on this one. Girls (intelligent ones) love guys who do yoga!

I do yoga, and I’m also involved in some pretty testosterone-driven team sports (at the weekend warrior level). I see more and more guys hitting the yoga mat these days. Ok, maybe a lot of them aren’t going for the chanting or to get in touch with their “inner self,” but they are trying it none the less. Yeah, some guys will always be jocks and they are so insecure that they need to find any reason they can to put someone else down. One thing that yoga has taught me is to not care what other people (especially morons) think about me anymore!

Athletes everywhere are turning to yoga. It truly has become the newest buzz for reaching peek physcial conditioning, increasing flexibility, reducing recovery time, etc. The entire Lakers team does yoga and football teams around the US are seeing the benefits it brings. Keep at it and continue to tell people that women weren’t allow to do yoga until the past 200 years or so – we weren’t strong enough to withstand the rigours of the practise. That has definitely changed, thankgoodness! Here is a link to an article about teen athletes doing yoga. Enjoy!

This is an old list, but look how many professional athletes did yoga in 2003. Give them some of these examples, and they’ll stop the teasing.

Invite them to an hour and a half Ashtanga Yoga class. Trust me, they’ll never say a word again.
